Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into better alignment. Each set is designed to fit your mouth specifically, based on a digital scan taken at our office. You wear each set for about two weeks before progressing to the next, and most patients complete treatment faster than they would with traditional braces.

The aligners are smooth, nearly invisible, and removable. You take them out to eat, brush and floss them, then put them back in. That’s really the whole routine.

There’s a reason clear aligners have become the go-to for adults and teens who want straighter teeth without making it obvious they’re in treatment. A few things that make Invisalign stand out:

Invisalign works well for a wide range of cases, including crowded teeth, gaps, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. During your consultation, we’ll review your teeth and let you know if clear aligner treatment is the right fit.

• No food restrictions. Because the aligners come out at mealtimes, you don’t have to avoid anything. Popcorn, apples, whatever you like.
• Easier oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing work exactly the same as they always have. There are no brackets trapping food or wires, making it harder to clean between teeth.
• Low visibility. Most people won’t notice you’re wearing aligners at all, which matters for work presentations, family photos, or just everyday interactions.
• Fewer office visits. Check-ins are typically quicker and less frequent than with traditional braces.
• Comfort. There are no sharp edges or wires pressing against the inside of your cheeks or lips.

Getting started is straightforward. We take a digital scan of your mouth that's fast and doesn’t involve messy impression material. From there, your aligners are custom-fabricated and shipped directly to our office.

Once treatment begins, the process is mostly self-managed. You wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day and swap to the next set in your series every two weeks. Periodic check-ins at Parkway Family Dental let us confirm that everything is progressing as it should.

Most patients complete treatment somewhere between 12 and 18 months, though simpler cases can finish sooner. Dr. Sheela Thomas will give you a more specific timeline after reviewing your individual situation. For more complex orthodontic concerns, Dr. Loiseau, our periodontist, is also part of our care team when needed.

Clear aligners are approved for both teens and adults, and the treatment process is essentially the same for both groups.

For teens, the main advantage is discretion. There’s nothing to announce to classmates, nothing to explain to a coach before a game, and no awkward phase of getting used to metal in your mouth. Aligners can be removed for sports or performances and go right back in afterward.

For adults, the appeal is often practical. Many adults avoided braces growing up and now want to address crowding or spacing without taking on a treatment that feels like it belongs in middle school. Invisalign fits into a professional environment without drawing attention.

Once you complete your aligner series, the work isn’t entirely done. Teeth naturally want to shift back toward their original positions, which is why wearing a retainer after treatment is important. We’ll walk you through your retainer options and how often you should wear them to maintain the alignment you worked to achieve.

Staying on top of regular cleanings and checkups also helps. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, which lowers your risk of cavities and gum disease, but consistent care is still the foundation of a healthy mouth in the long term.

Can I drink with my aligners in?

Water is fine. For anything else, coffee, tea, juice, it’s best to remove the aligners first. Staining and warping are real concerns with colored or hot liquids.

Will my speech be affected?

Some patients notice a slight adjustment period of a day or two, but most people adapt quickly and speak normally with aligners in.

Does treatment hurt?

There can be mild pressure when you switch to a new set, which is normal and typically fades within a day or so. It’s different from the soreness that comes with wire tightening.

What if I lose an aligner?
