A Clear Look at All-On-4
Losing most or all of your teeth changes many aspects of daily life. Eating becomes limited, speaking can feel different, and many people find themselves avoiding situations where their teeth might be noticed. All-On-4 in Quinlan at Parkway Family Dental offers a way to replace an entire arch of teeth with a fixed, implant-supported solution that doesn’t come in and out like traditional dentures. If you’ve been told you’re not a candidate for regular implants, or if you’ve been wearing dentures and want something more stable, All-On-4 is worth understanding in full.
What Is All-On-4 and How Does It Work?
All-On-4 is a dental implant technique that replaces a full arch of missing teeth using just four strategically placed implants. Two implants go in straight at the front of the jaw, and two are angled toward the back. That angled placement is what makes the system work so well for patients who have experienced bone loss, since it leverages denser bone in areas that typically remain intact even after teeth are gone for a while.
Once the implants are placed, a full arch of prosthetic teeth is attached on top. In most cases, a temporary arch is placed the same day as surgery, so you leave with functional teeth while the implants integrate with the bone. After healing is complete, usually several months later, a permanent arch is fitted and secured.
The result is a fixed set of teeth. They don’t come out at night, they don’t shift when you eat, and they don’t require adhesive to stay in place.
Who Is a Good Candidate for All-On-4?
All-On-4 was specifically designed with bone loss in mind, which makes it available to a wider range of patients than traditional implant approaches. You may be a good candidate if you:
Patients with certain health conditions, heavy smokers, or those with uncontrolled diabetes may need to address those factors before moving forward. We review your full health history before recommending treatment, and we’ll be straightforward with you about whether All-On-4 is a realistic option in your case.
- Are missing all or most of your teeth on one or both arches.
- Have been told you lack sufficient bone for standard implants.
- Currently wear dentures but find them unstable or uncomfortable.
- Want a fixed solution rather than something removable.
- Are in generally good health and don’t have uncontrolled conditions that would interfere with healing
All-On-4 vs. Traditional Dentures
This is the comparison most patients want to understand before making a decision, and the differences are significant.
Traditional dentures rest on the gum surface and rely on suction or adhesive to stay in place. They work for many people, but they come with real limitations. Chewing tough or crunchy foods is often difficult. The fit changes over time as the jaw ridge shrinks due to a lack of stimulation. And for some patients, they never feel fully secure.
All-On-4 implants integrate with the jawbone, which means the prosthetic arch is anchored the same way natural teeth are. Chewing force is distributed through the implants into the bone, helping preserve jaw structure over time rather than allowing it to deteriorate. The fit doesn’t change the way denture fit changes. And because the arch is fixed, there’s no removal, soaking, or adhesive involved.
The upfront cost is higher than for dentures, but many patients find the long-term value more favorable when they account for durability, reduced maintenance, and the quality-of-life difference.
The All-On-4 Process at Parkway Family Dental
Treatment begins with a comprehensive exam, including X-rays and a detailed assessment of your jaw structure and bone density. We use this information to map out implant placement and plan the prosthetic arch before anything begins.
On surgery day, any remaining teeth that need to be removed are extracted, the implants are placed, and a temporary arch is attached. Most patients are surprised by how functional that temporary arch is immediately after surgery. There’s a healing period that follows, during which the implants fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration. This typically takes three to six months.
Once healing is confirmed, the temporary arch is replaced with the final permanent prosthetic. That final arch is custom-fabricated to fit your jaw and designed to look natural.

Life After All-On-4
Caring for an All-On-4 arch is more straightforward than many patients expect. You brush the prosthetic teeth just like natural teeth, use a water flosser or interdental brush to clean underneath the arch, and come in for regular checkups so we can monitor the implants and the surrounding tissue.
Most patients notice an immediate improvement in their ability to eat a wider variety of foods. Many also report feeling more at ease in social situations once they have stable, natural-looking teeth again.
